What is cache in games?
How to Install Games with Cache on Android
Many modern Android games consist of two parts: the installation APK file and a cache archive (the game dаta: graphics, music, levels). If you only install the APK, the game often won't launch and will ask you to download additional files. To avoid this, you need to correctly place the cache in the right folder on your device.
Here is a detailed guide on how to do it.
1. Prepare the Files
Download two files: the APK file (the game installer) and the cache archive (most often a .ZIP or .RAR file). The archive is usually called "Cache", "Data", or "OBB".
Important: Do not extract the APK file. It will be installed at the end. The cache archive is the one you need to extract.
2. Where to Extract the Cache?
The cache must be extracted to one of two special folders on your device's internal storage. The choice of folder depends on what is inside the archive.
- Folder #1: /sdcard/Android/obb/
- Folder #2: /sdcard/Android/data/
How to do it correctly? Open the downloaded cache archive and look at its contents.
- If you see one or more files with the .obb extension inside the archive (e.g., main.1.com.game.name.obb), then you need to extract the entire archive to the /sdcard/Android/obb/ folder.
- A folder with a name like com.game.name should appear inside the obb folder, and the OBB file itself should be inside it.
- A folder with a name like com.game.name should appear inside the obb folder, and the OBB file itself should be inside it.
- If there is a folder with a complex name (usually like com.game.name) inside the archive, containing files and other folders (but no .obb files), then this folder must be moved to the /sdcard/Android/data/ folder.
- The final path should look like this: /sdcard/Android/data/com.game.name/
- The final path should look like this: /sdcard/Android/data/com.game.name/

3. Step-by-Step Guide to Transferring the Cache
You will need a file manager to work with archives and system folders.
- Install a file explorer. Download and install one of these file managers from Google Play:
- ES File Explorer
- Solid Explorer (used in this example)
- FX File Explorer
- Total Commander
- ES File Explorer
- Find the downloaded files. Open your file explorer and go to the Downloads folder, where the downloaded APK and cache archive are located.
- Extract the archive.
- Tap on the cache archive file (.ZIP or .RAR).
- Select "Extract" or "Unzip".
- You need to specify the extraction path. Navigate to the root of the internal storage (often called "Internal storage" or "sdcard").
- Find and open the Android folder.
- Following the rule from step 2, select either the obb or data folder.
- Press "OK" or "Extract".
- Tap on the cache archive file (.ZIP or .RAR).
- Check the result. Open the corresponding folder (/sdcard/Android/obb/ or /sdcard/Android/data/) and make sure the required game data folder has appeared there.
4. Installing the APK File
After the cache folder is in the right place, you can proceed to the final step - installing the game.
- Return to the Downloads folder.
- Tap on the downloaded APK file.
- The system will request permission to install from unknown sources. Grant it.
- Press "Install".
- Wait for the installation to complete.
That's it! You can now launch the game and play without needing to download additional data.
Important Note: If the game still doesn't work, check:
- The correctness of the cache extraction path.
- If there is enough free space on the device.
- Whether built-in device protection (antivirus) blocked the installation.
