Description Changelog

Description

Threema was created in Switzerland, and today this secure messenger is used by more than 12 million people in over 175 countries. Its purpose is simple: to chat without giving away unnecessary personal information. Neither a phone number nor an email is needed for registration. Instead, the app assigns a random Threema ID, and for those who value anonymity, that's exactly what's needed.

How communication works

Everything familiar is in place. You can write text and record voice messages, add emoji reactions, create groups and run polls in them, share location and send files in any format, be it PDF and GIF, or MP3 and ZIP. Voice calls, video calls, and conferences run under end-to-end encryption. If a message was sent with an error, it can be corrected or deleted, including for the other person as well. It's convenient to use on a computer through the desktop app or web client. The interface theme can be chosen: light or dark.

How it differs from mass messengers

As soon as a message is delivered, the server erases it. The servers themselves are located in Switzerland. There are no ads, trackers, or data collection in the app. The code is open and regularly audited, so the developers' promises about security can be verified yourself.

Useful details

Contact authenticity is confirmed with a QR code: scan it during a meeting, and no one will be able to impersonate the other person afterward. To download Threema for Android, download the latest version of the APK file from this page and install it. Updates come out regularly, and private messaging will always be at hand.
