Description Changelog

Description

With the FreeTone Calls & Texting app, an Android smartphone or tablet becomes a second phone. It gets its own number and voicemail, and you can call and text any number in the US and Canada for free. There's no trial period here, and you won't need to top up your balance either. The service will come in handy for those who regularly communicate with people across the ocean, as well as those who want to keep a separate number for work and website registrations.

How FreeTone Works

You choose the area code yourself during registration. The number starts working immediately. You can call both mobile and landline phones with it, and the person you're calling doesn't need to install anything. All traffic goes through Wi-Fi, so even a tablet without a SIM card can make calls, and minutes from your mobile plan are never used.

How It Differs From Competitors

Many VoIP services require you to accumulate credits or buy additional minutes. FreeTone requires none of that: outgoing calls to the US and Canada are free, with no conditions attached. Although there are still some limitations. Calls to Hawaii, Alaska, and some other territories are not included in the free package, and the service is only designed for residents of these two countries. Incoming calls to your personal number are free for the first 500 minutes, after which renewal costs a nominal fee. For SMS to Latin America, a fair-balance rule applies, meaning the number of sent and received messages should be roughly equal.

Communication Features

Calling is far from all this app can do. It sends real SMS and MMS, forwards large photos and videos, voice notes, and stickers. Group chats are also supported. And if a friend also has FreeTone installed, you can call them via HD video chat. Free SMS works in more than 40 countries, including Mexico, Dominica, and Brazil. You can log into your account from any of your devices. Your own number will appear as soon as you download FreeTone Calls & Texting for android as an APK file and install the latest version for free.
