HUAWEI Pura 80 Series: Flagship Mobile Photography

A month after the Chinese announcement, Huawei has unveiled the Pura 80 series on the international stage - the presentation took place in Dubai. Two models arrived on the global market: Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra. The lineup is aimed primarily at those who shoot a lot and want results close to professional-grade without hauling around a DSLR.

Huawei Pura 80 features

The series' main bet is the camera. Both models are equipped with a 1-inch main sensor with an adjustable aperture from f/1.6 to f/4.0, allowing flexible control over depth of field and amount of light. The HUAWEI XMAGE system has received updated styles and filters, and adaptive processing adjusts to the type of scene - portraits, night landscapes, or architecture are processed differently. Video is captured in 4K at 60 frames per second on all cameras with the ability to switch right during recording, and 4K HDR Vivid format is also supported.

The flagship Pura 80 Ultra goes further: it features a dual telephoto lens with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, providing 3.7x and 10x optical zoom thanks to two different focal lengths. This is a notable step forward for those who frequently shoot from a distance.

Design, protection, and battery life

The series' appearance is recognizable: the triangular camera block with metal rings around the lenses has been carried over from the previous generation. The novelty is the glossy rear panel on both models. It looks striking, but fingerprints appear literally within seconds, especially on the black and red variants. The Ultra comes with a matte case featuring a geometric pattern, which partially solves this problem and provides good impact protection. It's worth mentioning the glass separately: the Pura 80 Ultra received second-generation Kunlun Glass, which, according to Huawei, is 16 times more scratch-resistant and 25 times more drop-resistant compared to regular glass.

As for battery life - the 5170 mAh battery charges via wired 100W charging and 80W wireless charging. The devices feature a programmable smart button, and a new noise-cancellation algorithm improves voice call quality in noisy environments.

Who is Huawei Pura 80 for

The series is designed for users for whom the camera is the main criterion for choosing a smartphone: photography enthusiasts, content creators, and those who shoot video for social media. The Pura 80 Pro will cover most everyday shooting scenarios, while the Ultra with its dual telephoto lens will appeal to those working with distant subjects or wanting maximum capability. Those who prioritize gaming performance or the Google ecosystem over photo quality should consider alternatives.

The Huawei Pura 80 Pro and Ultra will go on sale by the end of July at prices of €1099 and €1499 respectively. If mobile photography is your priority, this is one of the most technically refined options on the market right now.
