Description

«Dungeons of the Dreadful Mountain» is a puzzle game for Android, where dungeon exploration is combined with well-thought-out puzzles. In 2022, the game won the IGF award, and it earned that reputation. There's no infinite room generator here: the developers built the route themselves, step by step. This is a game for those who like to think through every move and notice careful level design.

How the descent into the depths is structured

The road leads into the ancient bowels of the Dreadful Mountain, and along it there are 100 handcrafted levels. Each one is built around its own idea. You can't repeat the same scheme twice — you have to find the solution anew each time. The difficulty increases smoothly, and the feeling of descending ever deeper into the mountain comes through in the puzzles themselves.

What makes the game stand out among similar ones

Many puzzle games rely on random generation. Here, all the levels are crafted by hand, and critics appreciated it. IGN called the game very creative, WATSON called it a masterpiece, PURENINTENDO praised the beautiful design, and MACWORLD wrote that it's something truly special. The win at IGF 2022 showed that the project was noticed among independent developers as well.

What to pay attention to

It's worth mentioning the visual style separately. The dungeons look cohesive and don't get tiresome even over a long play session. A hundred stages are enough for many evenings. At the same time, the puzzle is convenient to go through in short bursts, a level or two at a time. If you want an unhurried game with carefully crafted levels, you can download Dungeons of the Dreadful Mountain for Android. The APK file with the current version can be downloaded for free right from this page and installed on your smartphone.
